ELEMENTS

The Periodic Table of Elements, developed over two centuries, has become an iconic symbol representing the 118 basic ingredients of matter in the universe. This artwork aims to capture the awe I feel about this concept. The 8” x 8” wood panels, decorated with paint, foil, and whatever else I could find, are bolted together to produce the entire Periodic Table of Elements measuring 24 feet by 6 feet, completed in January 2021. Photos of the individual panels are posted below the image of the final artwork in order of atomic number. Note that elements 100 through 118 (fermium through oganesson, but also element #87, francium) do not last long enough to produce quantities visible to the naked eye, so these are rendered in black and white.

A companion piece representing the Standard Model of particle physics was completed in November 2023.
