Entering the d-block
More progress on the Elements Project. The p-block of the table is finished. The nine-column d-block is well under way, consisting so far of the three columns on the left in the first photo.
Mercury was a challenge, but I think the result works well. Basically, I covered the wood panel and letters with a thin sheet of air-hardening clay. I covered that with resin, painted it with a gloss black lacquer, and finally a thin coat of Alclad chrome. Somewhere in that adventure my airbrush compressor fell off the work bench and broke, so there was a frustrating delay. But I'm happy with the results so far.
Next up on the bench: Platinum, palladium, and osmium. All of these are super shiny (or lustrous), so it's been interesting to try and figure out how to do these. With a few exceptions, most of the metals I've done so far are not really shiny in nature.
